Katy Perry got a smiling peppermint sweet with big eyelashes, while husband Russell Brand also had a design on the back of his arm; the logo of his favourite soccer team, West Ham United.

The tattoos were created by legendary tattoo artist Bang Bang - real name Keith McCurdy - who has previously completed body art for a host of stars, including Rihanna and Chris Brown.

Following his work on the 27-year-old pop beauty, Katy then turned the gun on him, giving him the same design on his leg.

She has been working up to the body art for some time, noting on twitter last week: "I'm getting MY tattoo TOMORROW! #tourtat (sic)"

The show, which will be anchored by "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest, with help from Fergie in Los Angeles and Jenny McCarthy in New York and will air live from 8 p.m. until after midnight on December 31. The Los Angeles portion of the show has added Taio Cruz, Minaj, Florence, Gym Class Heroes, Blink-182, OneRepublic, the Band Perry, will.i.am. and Christina Perri. Gaga, Bieber, Pitbull and Hot Chelle Rae will be on hand for the New York portion of the show.
